ITINERARY
Cusco – Rainbow Mountain – Cusco
We will start our Rainbow Mountain Peru Tour early in the morning. The tour company will pick us up from your hotel in Cusco at around 4:30 AM.
The journey will take us through the scenic landscapes of the Cusco region, passing traditional villages and lush valleys. The drive lasts about three hours. Allowing us to experience the beauty of the Andes as we ascend to higher altitudes.
We will stop at a local village for breakfast, where we can enjoy a traditional Andean meal. After breakfast, we will continue the drive to the trailhead. Once we arrive at the starting point of the Rainbow Mountain hike located at around 4,326 meters (14,189 feet). We will take a brief rest to acclimate.
Hiking Rainbow Mountain
The hike begins with a gradual ascent. We will pass through picturesque landscapes, featuring rolling hills and grazing alpacas. The air will be crisp, and we will feel the altitude as we climb. The path becomes steeper after the first hour, so we will pace ourselves.
The total hiking distance is approximately 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) round trip. So we recommend walking slowly and enjoying the surrounding beauty.
As we get closer to the top, we will begin to see the vibrant colors of Rainbow Mountain. The mineral-rich layers of the mountain form a stunning array of colors, from red to green and yellow. Reaching the summit, we will stand at a breathtaking altitude of 5,200 meters (17,060 feet). From here, we will enjoy panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks of the Ausangate mountain range.
After spending time at the top to take photos and soak in the views, we will begin our descent. The way down will be easier and quicker. Upon reaching the base, we will take a well-deserved lunch before driving back to Cusco.
We will return to Cusco around 4:30 PM and 5:00 pm. Where we can reflect on an unforgettable day of adventure.
